AMHAAbout AMHA

As a sister of 3 brothers with Autism a strong aspiration sprouted in Dr.Bhanumathi’s mind in her early childhood to explore the possibilities to work for the welfare of intellectually impaired community as a whole that inevitably require a helping hand throughout their life. When she grew up as an adult and through her experiences, she could understand that a good number of parents are unaware of the necessity of schooling and training their wards and were desperately worried about the plight of the wards after their demise.

This state of affairs inspired her to think about an institution which can do something for the needs of mentally challenged persons and their family. In 1996, with the moral support of Dr.K.S.Shaji and her friends ShriV.V.Joseph and Mrs. Mangala Shashikumar, she started working for the cause of the mentally challenged persons and their family.

AMHATrainings

We aim in training the mentally challenged adults by behavior modification through Occupational Therapy, Speech therapy, Yoga therapy and special education techniques by a team of efficient teachers and experts.

We train them in Drama, Music, drawing and painting. We use yoga, music and Theater as therapeutic tools. Yoga and music reduce hyper activity and behavioral problems in our students, especially in Autistic persons. Theater therapy makes a group sense in them and it increases their communication skills, language skills and self-confidence.

Psychiatrists take classes for the parents about the management of their mentally challenged children.
